Independent schools

Watts has a strong track record of working with some of the country’s leading independent schools. Our clients tell us that they value our ability to quickly understand their specific objectives and to provide clear advice and suggestions on how best to achieve these. We understand that building management is complex, especially with the diverse property portfolio associated with independent schools.

Our tailored approach works in partnership with Senior management team, bursars and estate managers to deliver a comprehensive service that covers both the exiting estate and the design and construction of building projects. Our services include condition surveys and historic building surveys, compliance audits, fire compartmentation surveys, defects investigation and planned preventative maintenance. The combination of our experience in providing new developments and dealing with the existing estates places us in a good position to assist in advising and supporting you in the preparation and deliver of your estate strategy.


Watts has been supporting schools and their property needs for the last 50 years. We are experienced in providing bespoke advice and surveys to the Education Authority (EA), local authorities and senior management teams within the schools themselves. We have excellent experience in providing condition surveys for a variety of needs. Most recently our education team have been part of the survey team that are currently undertraining the national English national schools surveys on the behalf of the Education Funding Agency (EFA). Other services that our clients return to us for are planned preventative maintenance reports, compliance audits, building defects resolution and heritage building advise.

On a school level our team takes pride in understanding the specific challenges and needs of the individual schools. Whether this is to re-vitalise a sports changing room or to react quickly to a building fire and make the building safe and back in to operation as soon as possible our take are able to support and lead the process. Our national project management team are experienced in delivering not only these day to day schemes but also the larger extensions and new build block that form part of the wider estate strategy for the school.
