Brodick Castle

Following Watts undertaking a condition survey of the Category A listed Brodick Castle located on the Isle of Arran, we were appointed by the National Trust for Scotland to develop a scheme of external fabric repairs to the Castle as identified in the condition survey.  In addition to the external fabric repairs, localised areas of internal repairs were included in the overall scope.

The external fabric repairs generally included for slate roof repairs, leadwork repairs, replacement and introduction of new lead weathering details, repairs / replacement of rainwater goods, masonry repairs, localised repointing works, the overhauling and repair of all castle windows and external decoration of previously painted surfaces.  Watts provided full design and specification services together with tender document preparation, and post contract administration of the building contract and inspections of the works.

Watts worked closely with the key client stakeholders throughout the design and project delivery stages ensuring minimal disruption to the Castle staff and members of the public visiting same.

A special point of interest on this project was the discovery of the location of a 17th century drawbridge uncovered during the works.
