O2 Shepherds Bush Empire
Shepherds Bush
Building surveying
Watts was appointed to manage the planning and heritage aspects of a Grade II listed theatre’s internal refurbishment. Despite the cosmetic nature of the works, listed building consent was required. We provided full support, from advising on statutory requirements to submitting a comprehensive application, ensuring a smooth and compliant process.
Our scope of work included:
- Replacement of all existing seating within the auditorium
- Installation of new carpet throughout the space
- Renewal of stair nosings to meet current safety and accessibility standards
- Advice on the implications of the building’s listed status and consent requirements
- Coordination of all information necessary for a formal listed building consent application
Project Delivery:
- Early engagement with the client and key stakeholders to define the scope of works
- Securing pre-application advice from the Local Planning Authority to shape the submission
- Preparation of a full application pack, including CAD drawings and a detailed Design, Access and Heritage Statement
- Submission of the listed building consent application and ongoing liaison with the Local Authority
- Negotiation and agreement of proposed alterations with the Conservation Officer to ensure acceptability
The application is under review by the Local Authority, with early engagement and close collaboration with the Conservation Officer helping to position it positively. Our proactive approach has provided the client with clarity and confidence throughout the process.
